RIFLE 101: RIFLE ORIENTATION

Rifle 101 is the ideal course for new rifle owners or those interested in shooting rifles.

This introductory course provides students with the basic knowledge and skills to safely handle, load, fire, and clear standard semi-automatic rifles. Time is spent in the classroom and on the firing range in a comfortable learning environment. This holistic and comprehensive course is designed to introduce students to the world of rifles. 

Prerequisite: None

Course Outline 

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:

Apply Safe Gun Handling in any environment (regarding the AR platform specifically)

Understand rifle parts, nomenclature, and support equipment considerations

Properly wear and use slings

Demonstrate the basic fundamentals of marksmanship

Perform rifle manipulation skills (loading, unloading, clearing)

Analyze  

Understand and utilize the basic concept of height over bore (offset)

Properly conduct bolt lock reloads

Shoot a group using the prone position

Recognize and apply

Disassemble, clean, and maintain a modern sporting rifle

Equipment List 

3 magazines (minimum)

Magazine pouches

Footwear suitable for rapid movement and turning

Clothing appropriate for training in any weather

Shooting gloves (optional based on student comfort)

Knee and elbow pads (optional based on student comfort)

Wraparound eyewear with polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription

Electronic hearing protection, earmuffs, or earplugs

Ammo 

Estimated round count: 220 rounds of rifle

Lead core ammunition is to be used on steel only

No green/brown tip, armor piercing, or surrogate rounds will be used on steel at any time.

HANDGUN 101: HANDGUN ORIENTATION/ SAFETY COURSE

PRE/ POST-HANDGUN CARRY PERMIT

This course is for ANYONE who is thinking of purchasing a gun or a new gun owner seeking familiarity and comfort, and those wanting to try something different and learn a new skill will find this course the perfect foundation.

This comprehensive course provides hands-on training and the basic knowledge to safely handle, load, fire, and maintain most semi-automatic pistols. Classroom and range time offer ample opportunity to achieve the skills for success in a casual, stress-free environment. This course may also meet and/or exceed the training requirements of many states and localities to apply for concealed carry permits. Check with your local issuing agency for more details.

Course Outline 

Responsible firearms ownership and applications of the handgun

Firearms safety training for the home, workplace, and vehicle

Safety concerns and practices while training and carrying a firearm

Safe use and handling of firearms

Locking devices and techniques for firearms to prevent unauthorized gun access

Potential dangers (penetration, ricochet, misidentification, accidental discharges, etc.)

Ready positions

Components and operation of modern pistols 

Types, components, and purposes of modern ammunition

Applicable laws relating to the possession, transportation, and storage of firearms

General guidelines on interstate travel with firearms

Administrative loading and unloading of pistols

Fundamentals of basic shooting techniques

Preventative maintenance (cleaning, maintenance, inspection, and safe storage)

Equipment List 

Please wear long pants with pockets and closed-toe shoes (no flip-flops or sandals).

DEFENSIVE PISTOL I COURSE (BASIC) 4.5 HOURS (1/2 day course)

This course covers the defensive use of a full-sized to compact-sized pistol. You will improve your pistol handling skills, emphasizing the fundamentals.

DEFENSIVE PISTOL COURSE I (BASIC) 8 HOURS (full-day course)

This class is an expanded version of our Defensive Pistol I Clinic. It’s a complete 8-hour training day offering. This class covers the defensive use of a full- to compact pistol. Students will improve their pistol handling skills through advanced drills and exercises emphasizing the fundamentals. Students will learn self-diagnostic skills to continue the development of their own personal performance.

DRAW FROM HOLSTER COURSE

4 HOURS

This clinic will teach you how to become more consistent, accurate, and faster when presenting your pistol from the holster. Most people can aim and press a trigger reasonably well, especially when no time constraint or stress is put upon them. However, drawing breaks down under stress and time constraints, adversely affecting consistency and accuracy. 

PISTOL SHOOTING DRILLS COURSE (BASIC) 4 HOURS

This course focuses on the fundamentals and mechanics of competent pistol shooting skills. Shooters will compete in varying shooting drills to expose insufficiencies in the execution of the individual shooter.

After each drill, there will be instructions on improving multiple areas in a diagnostic approach to each shooter’s needs.

Each student will walk away with a better understanding of their skill set and areas needing improvement moving forward.

LADIES INTRODUCTION TO PISTOL COURSE 8 HOURS (Groups, Teams, Couples Welcomed!)

The Ladies Pistol Introduction Course is designed for women who are brand-new pistol shooters or may be considering purchasing a pistol.

It will begin with the step-by-step process of purchasing or using a handgun right for YOU!

We will cover the fundamentals of marksmanship, including safety, sight picture, and trigger press. Students will become familiar with loading, reloading, drawing from the holster, and engaging targets.

Students will leave the class feeling confident in their understanding of how a pistol functions and how to shoot it safely.

Students will learn what kind of firearm is right for them.

How to safely carry, and what are the current legal laws?

This course will prepare you for passing the shooting portion of the concealed carry course.

Ladies ONLY Carbine Course (4 - 6 hours)

For Ladies Only. This course is for the ladies who want to learn to properly use their Carbine and begin to acquire the proper firearms skills with it. Gain an understanding of essential self-defense skills with the Carbine in a safe and supportive environment.  After this course, the shooter will walk away with newfound confidence and an identifiable loss of fear for this weapons system.

Learn proper zeroing and sighting for your choice of sights and optics. All manipulations will be thoroughly taught as they apply to your weapon system.  You will fire from various conventional and unconventional shooting positions, and our instructors will show you how to get into and recover from sitting, kneeling, and prone variations. This course also includes an introduction to low-light and no-light shooting techniques.
